Reporting from Vancouver, British Columbia, where the 2010 Olympic Winter Games were a success. Sixteen participants from four different countries participated in the Snowboard Cross, Speed Skate 500m, and Downhill Skiing. Due to extenuating circumstances and sheer brutality, the teams were forced to forego the final event, Bobsledding.
As Commissioner Greg tested the ice and snow, the Olympians waited patiently to select their Mario and Sonic alternative persona. The first country being represented by Jenna, Julie, Ken, and Muhlin at this year’s games was Atlantis. The even distribution of i2rd and Vipa Olympians did not prove to be advantageous for Atlantis. With nothing more than average participants, Atlantis finished last in all three events with Muhlin taking home the “I’d Rather Play Ping Pong” medal for the accumulative worst time.
Team Not Brazil rounded out third place with Vivian, the lone Brazilian, being the only Vipa Olympian on the team. Greg (aka Commissioner) taking home the Gold in Speed Skating, finishing second in snowboard cross and fourth in downhill skiing was just not enough to lead Team Not Brazil to victory. Josh proved consistent finishing second in skiing, seventh in snowboarding, and tenth in speed skating. Rumin, disappointed that Muhlin took home the ping pong medal, finished in fourteenth in skiing and fifteenth in snowboarding and speed skating.
Team Vipa 01 (representing their favorite server—not a real country) proved competitive with Ben A taking home the Gold in downhill skiing, and finishing fourth in speed skating and fifth in snowboarding. Never discount the interns is a lesson everyone learned in this year’s games. Showing off her snowboarding skills, design intern Becca took home the Gold medal. Taka proved truly consistent finishing eleventh in snowboarding and speed skating and thirteenth in skiing. Amanda, also practicing consistency, finished twelfth in snowboarding and speed skating and eleventh in skiing.
Sporting their eye patches, peg legs, and parrots, Pirate Nation took the Olympics by storm. Being average finally paid off. Not receiving any individual Gold medals, Pirate Nation conquered all taking home the team Gold. Dan came in third in skiing, sixth in snowboarding, and ninth in speed skating. Joey took third in snowboarding, sixth in skiing, and eighth in speed skating. Ben B placed second in speed skating, fourth in snowboarding, and twelfth in skiing. Russ placing eighth in snowboarding, ninth in skiing, and thirteenth in speed skating, did not stop the pirates from being victorious.
Despite bruised egos and a few broken fibulas, the games went out with a bang. The newly crowned Winter Olympians and their less fortunate opponents are looking forward to rematches at the Summer Olympics.
